REPORTS

Day of Champions

May 1, 2005

I can only begin to tell you about how blessed Danielle and I were by participating in the event at Cross City Correctional Institution yesterday (Saturday). IT WAS AWESOME!!! Fred Fernandez has been after me for years to try this out and I have always made excuses as to why I could not. The Santiago's have been encouraging us over the past few months. So we did it. Let me tell you, I've missed out on blessings over the years because of my hesitation to take part in this ministry.

The program at the prison includes several testimonies from those who "have been there". The guy leading the program did 20 years in the State Pen, including a period on death row. A celebrity gives his testimony (Tony Wollenda this time with a high wire act). The gospel message is clear. You just close the contract (i.e., similar to the Billy Graham Crusade).

One thing I took away from this weekend is this: if these guys and gals come to the Lord while they are incarcerated, it is less likely they will return to prison once they get out (remember, Jesus changes lives). I was able to encourage Christian inmates and also personally prayed with one who received Christ.

I encourage you to try it out as well. No motorcycle required - only your faith. To sign up go to http://www.lifechampions.org/PrisonMinistry.htm and scroll down and click on June 11th "Tampa, FL DOC (W)". We will be going to the Women's Correctional Institute about 1/2 hour from Tampa. Sign up deadline is May 11th and the registration fee is $15. No other money is required.

Blessings,
Mike
